Wild Cat Week
This week was a treat - I visited Bear Country in Rapid City, SD. It is a drive-thru wildlife preserve with a walk around area of small animals at the end. This week's video is painting live at this area. I try to capture the gesture of the animal while they are moving (yeah, it is a real challenge). In the 13 minute video you will see lynx, bear cubs, coyote and fox. For class Tuesday, I give you photo reference taken at the site. We will be painting different animals each week in August. I will be painting the close up of the Bobcat. Have your drawing ready if you want to paint along. I will start with the drawing on 140# Cold press watercolor paper. The painting below was painted on a foam core board with Golden moulding paste applied with a palette knife fully dry. It has plenty of texture but is very absorbent - the watercolors sink in and disappear a bit. Let's compare the difference when painting the same animal on paper Tuesday.
